The history of Le Grand Verdus wine is also that of the Château, which dates from the Renaissance, and of the Le Grix de la Salle family, who decided after World War II to grow their little vineyard into a renowned winemaking enterprise.
Here is a brief history of Château Le Grand Verdus, which has witnessed the birth of many great wines that are now recognised and exported to over twenty countries worldwide.
In 1579, the fortified country residence was built on the site of an old fortified castle. The first lord of the château recorded in the 16th century was Arnaud de Bonneau. In 1975, Antoine, aged 24, joined his father, Philippe Le Grix de la Salle, at the château, after a period working under Robert Mondavi in Napa Valley. They shared an office for the next twenty years and travelled extensively together to market their wines abroad, promoting the unique tradition and history of their wines, setting up a global sales network.
